What is a mashup and what is this Google Maps thing?

For those of you who have been living under a rock Google has a little thing called Google Maps and they have let everyone come in and play with it. The New York Times has an article that gives a nice overview of the Google Maps phenomenon as well as provides links to a bunch of sites using Google Maps.

In yet another post on the Google Maps phenomenon, the New York Times has an article that discusses what the fuss is all about as well as provides links to several different sites that make use of the Google Maps API. For those of you who don't already know the New York Times requires a free registration to view articles.
